Wade Chumney is an Associate Professor of Business Ethics and Law at California State University, Northridge. He joined the David Nazarian College of Business and Economics in August 2014. Prior to that he was employed at Georgia Tech as the Cecil B. Day Assistant Professor of Business Ethics and Law in the Scheller College of Business since 2009. He was previously an assistant professor at Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee, and a visiting lecturer at the University of Applied Sciences in Wiener Neustadt, Austria. Wade also spent five years in private practice before embarking on an academic career.

The primary focus of Wade’s research and teaching is the practical application of business ethics. His intention in teaching is to present a practical understanding of how to apply the principles of ethics in order to benefit your own life. To that end, he has also created an interdisciplinary Business Ethics Minor within the Nazarian College of Business in order to teach experiential aspects of business ethics to students across the entire CSUN campus. In addition to a revised business ethics course, this process led to the creation of three new courses within the Business Ethics Minor: Corporate Social Responsibility, Ethical and Legal Aspects of Managing Technology, and Personal Decision-Making for Success.

Wade has been an invited speaker at several prestigious universities, including: the University of Michigan Patent Law Colloquium, ICN Business School International Business Seminar, and the University of California, Berkeley, Boalt Hall Law School Spring Privacy Speaker Series. Additionally, he has been invited to present his research at numerous peer-reviewed conferences to discuss his areas of interest. He has also received several honors for his research. He was awarded the SEALSB Young Scholar Award of Excellence by the Southeastern Academy of Legal Studies in Business. He was awarded the Outstanding Scholarly Activity Award by the Belmont University College of Business Administration. The same year, he received a best paper award from the United States Association for Small Business and Entrepreneurship (USASBE). Additionally, he accepted a Distinguished Proceedings Paper Award from the Academy of Legal Studies in Business (ALSB). Additionally, he was honored with the Holmes-Cardozo Best Paper Award from ALSB, the highest honor given by the academy to a piece of legal scholarship in a given year.

A native of Charleston, South Carolina, Wade has a Juris Doctor from the University of Virginia School of Law, a Master of Science in Information Systems from Dakota State University, and a Bachelor of Arts from Davidson College.
